Dr. Frederick Fasehun, the National Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, has called on Nigerians to join the movement he says will deepen the country’s democracy.
Fasehun, who is also the leader of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, made the call in a communique issued at the end of UPN’s inaugural National Executive Council meeting in Lagos.
The political association’s parley was held ahead of its registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The communique signed by Bari Salau, the UPN National Publicity Secretary, said that the formation of the proposed party was based on the progressive philosophy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
It described the late sage as the “best President Nigeria never had”, expressing its resolve to provide free education, health services and water supply for the masses.
UPN also promised to “provide employment opportunities and improved security, economy, agriculture, electricity and infrastructure to the people, if registered by INEC.”
The communique disclosed that delegates from 32 states and Abuja attended the meeting, adding that delegates from Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States were absent because of the state of emergency imposed on the states by the Federal Government.
The association further urged. The youth to “save Nigeria from imminent collapse because the country’s fortune is being plundered with impunity by politicians who do not feel responsible to the people.”
