A High Court sitting in Abuja, had today fixed Thursday, May 10 for ruling in a case file seeking to drop charges against Farouk Lawan, former Chairman, House of Representatives’ Ad-hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy Regim. Farouk was accused of bribery while probing Nigerian oil marketer, Otedola.
DailyPost had gathered that the ruling which was slated for today, Thursday, 2nd May 2013 was again shelved due to the inability of the judge, Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi to turn up.
Lawan is currently standing trial alongside Boniface Emenalo, clerk of the committee on a 7-count charge of allegedly obtaining N625 million bribe from Femi Otedola, Chairman Zenon Oil and Gas Ltd.
The defence counsel, Rickey Tarfa, during the last hearing brought up an application asking the court to quash the charges against Lawan and Emenalo, arguing that the court lacked jurisdiction and competence to try and determine the offences in the said charge.
Tarfa stressed that the conditions precedent to prefer same had not been satisfied, thereby rendering the charges incompetent, null and void.
