Farmers/herdsmen clash: No attack recorded in FCT – CP

The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, has said that the command has not witnessed any clash between farmers and herdsmen in the territory. Inalegwu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday that this was because of the timely intervention and proactiveness of the command.

“We don’t have incident of clash between the farmers and herdsmen in the FCT because of timely intervention and proactiveness of the command.

“We had a situation around Waru, but it was quickly nipped in the bud, in fact they didn’t allow it to get to the police,’’ he said.

He said that the police and the herdsmen have a good working relationship that was yielding result.

“If I say today I need to see the entire Fulanis resident in the FCT, within a few hours all of them will be here,’’ he said.

The commissioner said that where the command had challenges was some of the border communities.

He said that he had appealed to those of them resident in the FCT to collaborate with the police for them to be protected from the roving herdsmen.

“To check the activities of the roving herdsmen, I told them to report any strange herdsmen to the police,’’ he said.

He said that the command recently had a town hall meeting with stakeholders in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s directive.

Inalegwu said the essence of the meeting was to mobilise the public by making them to trust police.

“We are going to hold similar meetings in the Area commands and Divisions.

The commissioner noted that if all the stakeholders would build close partnership with the police, crime would have been considerably managed in the territory.

“If all of us can forge a close partnership in the FCT, then we have managed crime in the territory.’’

He commended the residents for their cooperation with the police in checking crime in the territory.
