The Ondo State Police Command have arrested four suspects, identified as Dayo, Akanbi Adeboye, Baba Ejima and Olowo Johnson, over the death of a farmer, at Odogbede Village, Ido Ani, in the Ose Local Government area of the State.
The farmer, identified as Lamidi Adeyeye, was hacked to death in his farm by Dayo, after he was caught by the deceased stealing 10 tubers of yam.
According to reports, the deceased had left home around 4 pm on the fateful day to pick some tubers of yam he had earlier harvested.
A source disclosed that the suspect had attacked the deceased when he was caught in the act.
“The suspect attacked Adeyeye when he raised the alarm. He overpowered the deceased, hacked him to death and buried him.”
The deceased’s wife reported her worries to her neighbours when her husband did not return home early as expected and a search party was organized.
Lamidi’s body was found at a shallow grave around his farm at about 12 am.
However, Dayo was fished out by one of the villagers as a suspect and a search was conducted at his house where a cloth stained with blood was retrieved.
Confirming the report, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said investigation is on-going.
