Angry fans descended on referee Daniel Akure and his assistants, following Warri Wolves 1-1 draw at home with league leaders, Wikki Tourists.
According to reports, one of Akure’s assistants escaped the assault, by running into Wikki’s team bus.
“The referee got the beating of his life, while his assistant only escaped such treatment when he was smuggled into the team bus of the visiting team and quickly discarded his uniform,” one eye witness told AfricanFootball.com
Recently, referees threatened to boycott games in the third-tier, the Nationwide League, because of attacks on officials at stadiums.
