President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki on Thursday pleaded not guilty to amended charges of false asset declaration by the Federal Government.

Saraki who is standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on a 16-count charge bordering on false and anticipatory assets declaration when he was the governor of Kwara State had pleaded not guilty to the charges twice.

The Federal Government had in September 2015, first amended a 13-count charge of false asset declaration‎ against Saraki, which he pleaded not guilty to.

Again, the government in 2016, amended the charges from 13-counts to 16 counts.

On February 8, 2017, the Federal Government’s lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs, had informed the tribunal of government’s interest to amend the charges.

Jacobs had noted that the amendment was based on evidence that had already been tendered‎ at the tribunal.

‎However, two more charges were added, making it 18.

Trail still ongoing.
