“Falcons ready to shock big teams at the World Cup” – Okon

Coach of the Super Falcons, Edwin Okon, has insisted that his team can “shock the world” at the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada.

The African champions have been drawn in the ‘Group of Death’, along with USA, Australia and Sweden.

“We qualified as African champions and that should worry the other teams in our group,” Okon told BBC Sport.

Okon went on to explain that he has better players available to him, who can challenge the superpowers at the competition.

“We have a young squad with strong mentality and our opponents definitely respect us because we are not under pressure.” he said.

“Our ambition is to surpass the quarter-final stage of 1999 and my players are well aware that the pressure is on the supposed big teams to deliver.

“Our squad is very strong, boasts of players who have played on a big stage, they fight for a common cause – and I think this mentality is important to us.

“If we play our game, stay focused and with God on our side we will shock the world.”

The World Cup will be played between June 6 and July 5, 2015.
