Falana accuses APC of denying Electoral promises

Popular lawyer and activist, Femi Falana , SAN, on Monday took a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC) for denying its electoral promises.

Falana spoke at the June 12 event organized by the APC-led government in Ondo State.

Falana said the APC promised to initiate action on restructuring the country.

The minister of Information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed was reported to have said that restructuring was not part of the campaign promises of the APC.

But Falana, who spoke at the June 12 lecture event organised by the Ondo state government, in Akure, the state capital said the APC campaign on restructuring was contained in the first page and the first paragraph of the APC manifestoes.

The activist said irrespective of whether the APC wanted restructuring or not, Nigeria will be restructured.

He noted that political restructuring without economic restructuring will do the country no good.

Falana who also condemned the quit notice given to Igbos by some AREWA youths said the security agents must arrest those involved in the divisive statement.

In his speech, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, said those calling for the division of the country must be dealt with.

He said “Beyond uncontrolled revelry, usually associated with a convivial ambience, I believe this celebration should afford us the auspicious moment of introspection

“We should pause to ponder on the journey so far. We should also leave the venue, rededicated to the cause of the total emancipation of the downtrodden from the shackles of poverty and the attendant gross privation.

“This has become more exigent now that the country faces serious identity crisis. Must we also remind the simpletons who issued empty threats that nobody will be evicted from any part of the country?

“Is it not shameful that while we all condemn xenophobic attacks in South Africa and other places, we are unable to live with one another?

“In whose interest are the exigent calls for political restructuring without considering the economic potentials and inputs of virtually all regions that have been rendered parasitic and unproductive by an avaricious and untoward generation?

“What exactly, other than parochialism, propelled by greed, that is pushing certain characters to overheat the polity?

“How educated are we when we exhibit abysmal ignorance, confusing immediate location as evidence of origin?

“What is the foundation for our avowed religiosity, hypocritical display of piety, when, one hand we discriminate against ourselves and still regard the idea of emanation from one Demiurge, God, as valid? Akeredolu asked.

Others who spoke at the event included the chairman of the occasion, Wale Oshun, Jiti Ogunye and others.
