Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae was in court Wednesday to testify against seven suspects, who kidnapped him at his farmland in Ilado, Akure North local government area of Ondo State.
The suspected kidnappers, who are mainly Fulanis, abducted the elder statesman on September 21, and he was released three days later after a sum of N5million ransom was paid to the hoodlums.
At the court, Falae identified some of his abductors, saying there were two other suspects yet to be apprehended by the security operatives.
The Afenifere chieftain, who is a star witness told the court that six of the kidnappers in mask stormed his office in the farm and inflicted injuries on his body before they forcefully dragged him out into the bush.
He added that the suspected miscreants after trekking for hours, removed their mask and he was able to identify them.
Falae said they later around 7pm, on the same day he was abducted, demanded his wife’s phone and which he said he humbly gave to them.
According to Falae,”When one of them saw my wounds, he went to the bush to look for a leaf, which he used to treat the wounds. That was how we started a journey that lasted for twelve hours.
“Around 7 pm in the evening of the day that I was kidnapped, they got my wife’s phone number and ordered her to go and look for N100 million as a ransom before they would release me.
“One of them said, my people were offering them N2 million, how could my people offer N2 million to Boko-Haram? That was then I asked to speak to my wife to look around whether we could meet their demand which I understand is N5 million at that time.”
The Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, who is representing the state in the matter, prayed the court for adjournment.
The court presided over by Justice Rotimi Olumide, ordered that the suspects should remain in prison custody till December 15.
