The South African police on Thursday confirmed that a Nigerian delegate attending the 25th African Union summit was robbed by some fake cops in Johannesburg.

A Gauteng Police spokesperson, Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the fake police officers attacked Gabriel Gundo, a Nigerian official, along Marlboro Drive on Wednesday night while travelling from OR Tambo International Airport to Sandton, where the summit was holding.

It is believed the men who robbed Gundo were posing as police officers.

The police spokesman noted that the incident was been investigated by the South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as Hawks.

The 25th AU summit is being held at the Sandton Convention Center and will end on June 15.

It will be recalled that several delegates attending the Pan African Parliament in Johannesburg were on May 22 robbed at gunpoint while in a bus at the entrance of the Protea Hotel.
