Failure to qualify for 2017 AFCON will hurt Nigerian football – Agu

Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Aloy Agu, has called on the team to do all in its power to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Nigeria was dumped out in the preliminary rounds of the just concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda and there has been a lot of criticisms about the quality of the players and coaches.

Agu has now come out to say that the Eagles have the best players available and will beat Egypt, when both sides meet in an AFCON qualifier next month.

He also admitted that Nigeria must qualify for the tournament, as failure to do so will not augur well for the country’s football.

“Coach Oliseh has started discussing with the foreign-based players that will be invited for the game. Part of our plans for the Egypt game is to open camp early and start preparations with the home based players.

“The foreign-based players will join the team later, but every player that makes the final squad must be committed and hungry to get the AFCON ticket. Not earning the AFCON ticket after the losing out from the last edition, will not be a good omen for Nigeria football,” he said.
