Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has called for acquisition of more facilities that would enhance learning in schools in Cross River State.

Speaking at the 20th anniversary of FAAN Secondary Schools in Calabar, the Airport Manager, Mr Ayodele Sunday said education was not just about preparation for future work but developing potentials of individuals and enhancement of personal quality.

“The knowledge children learnt at schools will soon lag behind the development of the society. In the face of the challenges ahead, we need to equip our new generation to be life-long learners and with the ability to learn how to learn, so that they can keep abreast of changes and become active and valuable members of our community”

Mr Sunday further said, “While the schools are important place for children’s education, families play an equally critical role in the development of their children. A big challenge for us, as parents or educators, is to equip our children with the knowledge, skills and values for all-round and whole-person development.

“Our vision of education for the 21st century is to enable all our children to develop their potential. I wish more schools in Cross River could be like ours but there are physical constraints. In the case of our schools, I hope we would continue to make the best use of our resources, the impressive facilities, the active participation of parents, the support of alumni, many of whom have made significant contributions to Nigeria”

FAAN secondary school, Calabar was opened officially on the 8th September 1997 with 28 students but today has over 400 students with 51 academic staff and 13 non academic staff.
