FAAN, NCAA begin implementation of Osinbajo’s order

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, said it has started implementation of the Executive Order recently signed by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.

Managing Director of FAAN, Saleh Dunoma, spoke on Tuesday after a meeting with all the participating agencies at the committee level set up to fast track the implementation of the order at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

“As indicated by the executive order, there will be no compromise with the procedures. This means whatever security procedure or security checks we adopt, will not be compromised.

“I told them that we have to meet the deadline set by the executive order. They have mapped out their strategy in line with the order, but they need to meet regularly to ensure that this strategy is adhered to and improved.

“If we get it right in Lagos, we will get it right in other airports. Once we do that, I believe all the other airports will be easy for us.

“I am confident that other participating agencies will support FAAN’s efforts to achieve the desired result.

“The executive order does not give room for pre-checks on luggage. All checks should be done in designated areas. Luggage should not be checked at the departure hall.

“Once it is implemented, it must be sustained that is why everybody must own it. The agencies are sitting together now to make sure that they own the executive order. Once you own it, then it will be sustained,” he said.

In a statement, General Manager, Public Relations, NCAA, Sam Adurogboye, said the agency’s Director General, Muhtar Usman, had directed all Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASI) to monitor the level of compliance with the order.

“All aviation parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigeria Meteorological Agency (Nimet) and Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) have since commenced compliance to the order.

“On its part, NCAA has prepared a standard document outlining its core functions and services, appropriate charges, fees, licences, waivers and other tax-related processes, in adherence to the order.

“The schedule contains mode of communication of official decisions to the various applicants for our sundry services”.

He said key information on ease of doing business in the Nigerian aviation sector are already in the official website of the NCAA.

Adurogboye added that new order would improve safety, security and facilitation of passengers within and around the airports.
