The Football Association has rejected Liverpool’s appeal to reduce Sadio Mane’s ban.
Mane was shown a straight red card, for raising his foot in a challenge with the City goalkeeper Ederson, in the first half of Liverpool’s 5-0 defeat on Saturday.
The Senegalese forward’s boot caught Ederson in the face on the edge of City’s penalty area and the 25-year-old was dismissed by referee Jon Moss.
A statement on the FA’s website on Tuesday read: “Sadio Mane’s three-match suspension, which was effective immediately, remains in place after his claim of excessive punishment was rejected following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.
“The Liverpool forward was dismissed for serious foul play during the game against Manchester City on Saturday [9 September 2017].”
Mane will now miss three games against Burnley and Leicester (twice).
