FA Cup: Manchester United reveal why Pogba will not play against Huddersfield

Manchester United have confirmed Paul Pogba will miss today’s FA Cup clash against Huddersfield due to illness.

U-23 midfielder Ethan Hamilton has taken his place in the squad.

United manager, Jose Mourinho, dismissed reports of a rift with the club’s £89million record signing as “lies” and “bull***t” on Friday, but admitted Pogba is not playing well enough.

Sportsmail reports that the two met at Carrington for an hour on Tuesday, after the Frenchman was substituted at Newcastle and Tottenham and dropped to the bench against Huddersfield.

They spoke about Pogba’s form and best position, which left the 24-year-old midfielder stony-faced when he emerged.

The former Juventus star is also understood to be unhappy playing alongside Nemanja Matic in a 4-2-3-1 formation, preferring a more liberated role on the left-hand side of a 4-3-3 similar to the one he had in Italy.
