Olivier Giroud has spoken of his relief, after netting his first goal for Chelsea, in their 4-0 win over Hull City in the FA Cup.
Giroud scored the last goal, stroking home a cross from fellow new boy Emerson Palmieri in the first half, adding to a brace from Willian and a strike from Pedro.
The former Arsenal striker failed to score in his previous three appearances for the Premier League champions and came under pressure, as Michy Batshuayi – the player Chelsea sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund to make room for the Frenchman – scored five times in his first three appearances for his new club.
“To be honest, I was waiting for it,” Giroud told BT Sport at full-time.
“I had a couple of chances in the previous game. It was very important for me to score this first goal and it relieves me a little bit.”
Giroud also spoke about how he’s fitting into Antonio Conte’s team.
“I assisted Eden (Hazard) last time and today I set up Willian’s one and I’m very happy and I take a lot of pleasure on the pitch.
“You can see the team has good team cohesion and it was very important to bounce back from the two games before, the West Brom game. We’ve been through a disappointing result. It’s very nice. Two clean sheets. Seven goals. Very good for the confidence. It’s what we needed.
“We need momentum. Everything is going in the right way. We’re very pleased with these two last games so let’s carry on.”
