FA Cup final: Conte insists he will leave Chelsea as “a hero”

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has said he will leave the club as “a hero”, if he is sacked after the FA Cup final on Saturday.

The game at Wembley against Manchester United, is expected to be the Italian’s last game in charge of the Blues, after an underwhelming second season.

Conte won the Premier League title in his first year in England, but has mounted a miserable title defence, which sees the Blues drop into the Europa League.

When asked what went wrong, Conte told media on Friday: “I must be honest, I don’t know about this.

“For sure, I didn’t change my commitment for the club, my commitment has always been the same. I am pleased with my work.

“This season, I worked better than last season. For sure, I worked harder.

“I don’t know if something has changed, and last season we were heroes for Chelsea’s fans and now our status has changed.

“But in my soul and my heart, I am always a hero because I gave 120 per cent, also this season to solve the problems.”
