Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has commended the Federal Government for setting up a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the floating corpses recovered at the Ezu River earlier this year.
The Governor gave the commendation through the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Amechi Okolo when the committee paid him a courtesy call at the government House, Enugu. He affirmed the readiness of the government and the people of Enugu State to assist the committee in its investigation to expose the perpetrators of the ugly act. He noted that the recovered corpses were Nigerians, adding that government and the people should unravel those behind such wicked actions.
“We shall do whatever is our obligations to ensure that the perpetrators are exposed”, Chime assured, calling for an exclusive interaction between the committee members and relevant agencies in the state with a view to finding out the cause of the incident.
Earlier in their separate speeches, leaders of the committee, the chairman Senate committee on Police Affairs as well as chairman on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu and Mohammed Mogoro, respectively, called on the government and people of Enugu State to assist the committee in exposing those behind the of the ugly incident.
They noted that the Senate constituted the committee with a view to forestalling future occurrences.
According to them, the corpses had homes and relations that should be traced with a view to finding out what happened to them. They said that they had made a similar visit to Anambra as the river affected the two states, adding that the government and the people of the state had made useful statements.
