Extort money from motorist and be dismissed – FRSC Chief Executive Officer warns

Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, have been warned against collecting money from motorists due to violation of road traffic offences and any operative caught will be made to face disciplinary actions, including dismissal.

This was disclosed by Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive Officer of FRSC, who was represented by Deputy Corps Marshal, Charles Theophilus, in Kaduna during an interactive session with senior officers and marshals of the corps,  appealing to the officers to stay away from corruption.

The FRSC boss, through his representative, affirmed: “Measures have been put in place to put a stop to anything that has to do with corruption within the system. If you are caught, you will be tried and if the evidence is overwhelming, you will be appropriately sanctioned.

“There is a stipulated amount of money our men should have on them while on patrol. So the moment the surveillance team finds more money on you, you will have to explain to the panel set up in that regard for onward prosecution.

He further added: “Any motorist who is asked for money by any member of the corps at any point across the country can call our toll free on 122 to seek redress. And in addition to that, we all have our names inscribed on our uniforms which you can see and alert the corps whenever there is suspicion. It’s not like corruption is endemic in the corps, we just want to gear-up our standard so that the society will know us for who we are.”

Oyeyemi urged road traffic offenders not to bribe corps members but rather be ready to pay fines.
