According to Jon Gambrell, an AP reporter based in Nigeria, a powerful explosion has struck a building, containing fireworks on Lagos Island in Lagos.

In his tweet-account, he wrote: “The explosion happened around 9am and shook windows miles away.

“It is unclear what started the fire. Officials could not immediately say if anyone had been injured in the blast.

“The fire has consumed two blocks of buildings on Lagos Island. The blast blew out windows of a school across the street.”

The reporter went ahead to tweet some pictures from the scene of the incident, indicating that “there are strewn bits of fireworks all over the ground and bottle rockets keep going off.”
