Firefighters try to extinguish a blaze on Thursday in Lagos following an explosion on an oil pipeline.
There was an explosion caused by a yet to be identified substance at Number 88 Oworo Road, in Oworonsoki area of Lagos State throwing the entire area into panic.
Eyewitness accounts say the loud bang was heard at about 2:15 pm when residents were returning to their respective homes after church service.
They revealed that many sustained injuries in attempts to escape from the scene of the blast, even though the number of casualty is yet to be ascertained as at press time.
Confirming the incident, Director of the Lagos Fire Service, Mr. Rasaq Fadipe, noted that men of the Ilupeju Fire Service were dispatched to the area immediately a distressed call was received at about 2:20pm.
He was however unable to immediately confirm to newsmen if the explosion was a bomb or otherwise.
