There are reports of a deadly explosion at the Central Mosque in Kano this afternoon.
Reports say the explosion which may have killed many people occurred when Muslim faithful were holding their Friday Jumat prayers.
The blast reportedly went off in the same Mosque where Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido usually join others to pray.
Details of casualties are still very sketchy. We are keeping track with unfolding development and will update as soon as they are available.
However, it has been gathered that immediately the bomb went off, gunmen believed to be Boko Haram insurgents opened fire on survivors who were attempting to escape the scene.
Sources say that the first explosion went off at the start of the Friday Juma’at prayers at the mosque where Emir, Mohammed Sanusi II, often attended.
Recall that the Emir, who is currently out of town as such could not be at the venue, had encouraged Nigerians to embrace self defense whenever the insurgents come at them.
