Explain to Nigerians how 44 soldiers were killed in Metele – Bishop Okonkwo tells Buhari

Ex-president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and General Overseer of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo, has called on the

Federal Government to explain to Nigerians what really led to the death of 44 soldiers in Metele, Borno State.

On 18 November, the Al Barnawi faction of Boko Haram attacked the 157 Task Force Battalion based at Metele in the northern part of Borno state, killing scores of the Nigerian troops.

The military authorities are, however, yet to give the specific number of casualties.

However, Presdient Muhammadu Buhari had in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Saturday, assured that immediate measures are being taken to ensure that the loopholes which led to the fatalities are blocked once and for all.

But, Okonkwo reacting to the Buhari’s response to the killings, described the inability of the government to determine what really transpired at Metele killings as unfortunate.

He called on the government to be sincere with Nigerians and reveals facts behind killings.

Okonkwo who spoke with TVC news on Monday said: “These are the things that cast aspersion on the federal government they tell us they are doing the best they can to fight Boko Haram but when issues like this come up they don’t address it so people doubt their sincerity.

“It is possible that they are sincere but the issue is how do they address issues like this?

“You should be passionate and address issues like this with the speed it demands.”
