The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, on Tuesday challenged the Simon Lalong-led APC administration to give account of the over N115 billion the state received as revenue, allocation and loans in the past 14 months.
This was made public through the PDP Chairman in the State, Hon. Damishi Sango, while briefing journalists at the party Secretariat in Jos.
“How has Governor Lalong improved the welfare of the people of the State with the over N97 billion he collected as revenue in the past one year and two months? Sango asked.
“How has he developed Plateau with the nearly N18 billion he took as loans from commercial banks(while at the same time crying out loud he inherited crippling loans from the from the previous administration)?
The former Minister of Sports also asked, “Why was a whopping N4.5 billion spent on luxury cars for selected government officials at a time pensioners and civil servants were being denied their pay package?
“Why is Lalong spending N1.4 billion to purchase and install GPRS tracking devices on 100 cars?
“This translates to N14 million to track one car for one year.
“How much is a car tracker that Lalong will spend N1.4 billion to install them on just 100 cars? He further asked.
According to him, the aforementioned figures do not include the N155 million, which he said has been on insurance for the 100 cars.
The PDP Chairman further alleged that the present administration in the state claimed that over N500 million was spent on patching/rehabilitation of roads within the metropolis, “yet potholes on our roads even within the city are permanent features of our driving experience.”
Sango also accused Governor Lalong of diverting Local Government funds, saying, “we wish to alert Plateau that things could worsen in the months ahead with LG staff being owed up to a year’s wages.
He said the “Rescue mission” of the APC led administration in the State, means, “endless borrowing of billions of naira, selling of the dignity and inheritance of the people of Plateau on the altar of seeking for relevance from Abuja in the name a rejected grazing reserve policy.
Reacting to the allegations, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Simon Lalong on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen, said, “The comments are merely wild allegations that put logic on its head and devoid of documentary evidence, which must be ignored by all right-thinking individuals.
“Sango’s diatribe is something that is akin to the ranting of the leader of a political party which requiem mass the APC Government in Plateau State is already celebrating.
“In fact, joining issues with the PDP and its drowning leaders will be tantamount to over-flogging a dead horse, which PDP represents.
“It is noteworthy however that the comments constitute a mischievously orchestrated opposition falsehood and diversionary tactics aimed at gaining public sympathy, and settling scores with the Governor by diverting people’s attention from the multi billion naira looting mess that the PDP and its leaders bequeathed to Governor Lalong, which the recently constituted Judicial Commission of Inquiry will soon unearth and make public,” he stressed.
