The Miyyati Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Kebbi Chapter, has appealed to the state government to establish additional earth dams and expand grazing reserve areas in the state.
The state Chairman of the association, Alhaji Muhammad Dan-Ali, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
“The additional earth dams and expansion of grazing reserve areas will curtail the clashes between farmers and cattle herdsmen in the state,” Dan-Ali said.
He said the demarcation of grazing reserves to Fulani herdsmen was vital towards addressing the clashes between them and farmers.
According to him, the issue of security is a national phenomenon that requires all and sundry to contribute in order to tackle it.
He also decried the kidnapping of their members by the cattle rustlers in some parts of the state.
“Some parts of the state, especially Shanga, Ngaski, and Yauri local government areas, have been experiencing kidnapping; our members have been kidnapped and would not be released until the ransom is paid.
“We have forwarded our grievances to the state government, we are waiting for appropriate measures to be taken to ensure the safety of our members,” he said.
Dan-Ali also commended the Commission for Nomadic Education for constructing 10 primary schools in the state.
He described the efforts made by the government to increase the classrooms as good move. (NAN)
