Exercise cat race: How military officer, 3 suspected kidnappers were killed in Kogi

Soldiers taking part in the ongoing ‘Exercise Cat race’ in six North Central states on Tuesday rescued an oil magnate, Alhaji Otinau Momohjimoh kidnapped ten days ago in Okene.

DAILY POST gathered that the rescue operation, however, led to the killing of three of the kidnappers and a newly wedded soldier in a shootout during the operation.

The rescue operation also left the victim, an oil mogul, Chairman and Chief Executive of Always Petroleum and gas Alhaji Otinau Momohjimoh sustaining gun shot wound and currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Okene

It was gathered that the family of the victim having agreed on the ransome to be paid, informed the army on patrol who followed them to the agreed spot.

On sighting the soldiers, the kidnappers opened fire, killing one soldier said to be newly married.

The soldiers replied and in the ensuing gun duel, three of the kidnappers were brought down, while one of them was captured alive.

The oil mogul was kidnapped ten days ago in Okene at about 8pm when some suspected kidnappers fully armed abducted him in front of a Mosque while in company of some friends.

Captain Weri Finikumo, the spokesman for the Army record command, Lokoja when contacted on phone said the exercise was on going, adding that the command will address the press at the end of the exercise.

“I cannot give you any statistics now as the exercise is still ongoing, we will call you for a briefing at the end of the exercise”, Finikuma said.

The remains of the slain soldier have been deposited at the General Hospital, Okene.

Exercise Cat Race” was launched in Benue State last week by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General. Tukur Buratai as a measure to check security situation in six states in north central.
