EXCLUSIVE: How Governor Yero’s inaction on SSS report aided Boko Haram attack on Kaduna

A top security source, on Tuesday, told DailyPosty that the multiple explosions that rocked Kaduna State on July 23 would have been prevented if the State Government had acted on the security report at its disposal.

DailyPost recalls that on that fateful day, suicide bombers unleashed terror on Kaduna metropolis killing over 100 people, while scores of others sustained serious injury.

The first blast occurred around 12: 45 pm along the crowded Isa Kaita by Alkali Road Junction shortly after the closing of the an annual Ramadan Tafsir by a renowned Islamic Scholar, Sheik Dahiru Bauchi.

The security source who pleaded for anonymity told our correspondent that two weeks before the explosion, the Department of State Security (DSS) had written to the State Governor, Muhktar Ramalan Yero on a plan by the Boko Haram sect to bomb the state.

“The DSS director wrote to the governor and advised him to stop the annual closing ceremony of the Ramadan lecture from holding in view of the security threat.

“The DSS saw it coming and did advise the executive as expected, but the executive refused to act as advised and allowed the lecture to hold, which gave the bomber the opportunity to strike.

“Our men have been trailing insurgents, some of them have relocated from Borno State to Kaduna and have been looking for ways to cause terror in the state”, he disclosed.

According to our source, the Director was angry after the explosions because he saw the explosion coming and had advised the government accordingly.

He also disclosed that security operatives from the DSS were trailing the bomber, and that they were at the verge of tracking him down before he detonated the bomb.

“We strongly believe that the bombers would have been apprehended and the explosions would not have taken place had the Ramadan lecture been stopped. The bombers took advantage of the crowd to do what they did”, the operative added.

The source also added that the war against insecurity was not succeeding because of the crack among the security agencies especially within the Army, the Police and the DSS as well as lack of trust on security report by some of the state executives. “This is why the DSS is now involved in arrest and prosecution of suspect because of the crises among the security agencies. There is actually no synergy among the DSS, Army and the Police, and unless there is such synergy, the war against insurgencies will be difficult to win”, he said.

DailyPost recalls that Governor Yero, who visited the scenes of the twin bomb blasts and the hospital where the surviving victims were being treated, said that the bombers took advantage of the crowded town to execute their evil plans.

“Kaduna people have been very vigilant, but unfortunately, because of the crowded town we had that day, this thing happened. But we know that by the grace of God, this thing will never happen again”, he prayed.
