Akerele, a seasoned Broadcaster and Pastor of the Reedemed Christian Church of God(RCCG)died in his sleep on January 14 shortly after visiting his wife,Lucy who was then hospitalised. He died at 53.
Apart from a service that was held at the Cathedral Church of Holy Trinity,Idoani, the former Commissioner was also honoured with another commendation service at the RCCG Mega Cathedral, Akure.
Additionally, there was music ministrations by Choristers as well as prayer sessions held for the widow and the two children,Segun and Tofunmi whom he left behind. The prayers were offered by Pastor O.Olowookere.
In his words of exhortation, the Assistant Provincial Pastor,O.Ogunode described the Late Commission as a dynamic person imbued with many talents.
Quoting from the book of Ecc. Chapter 7 Verse 3, he lamented that people always think of money, property, power, positions and other worldly materials, stressing that death ends every human desire.
According to him,”if you are lucky in life, your body may be intact when you die, many people had died without their dead bodies recovered”
“You will appear before your maker, our running up and down to build mansions in Dubai, Ajah, Lekki or other choice places is vanity upon vanity, there is time for every man”
The Cleric emphasised that nobody knows when the time would come, recalling that Jesus Christ lived for only 33 years and some months before his inevitable death.
Pastor Ogunode said”it is not that kind of ceremony at your funeral that will help you to make heaven, but your faith and how you live while still alive”
“Whatever you grab either legally or otherwise, you will leave it behind when death knocks at your door”
He urged the people to make amends, noting that whether one likes it or not,he or she would appear before the creator.
The cleric urged Mrs Akerele to rise up to the challenge and show herself as a “Man” with courage who should take after the husband.
The funeral Service was attended by Governor Olusegun Mimiko and his wife, Olukemi alongside top government officials.
Akerele’s remains were conveyed in a long motorcade from Akure to Idoani for final interment after another service was held at the Cathedral Church of Holy Trinity(Anglican Communion)in Idoani.
