Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Fatai Amao, has urged Nigeria to forget about Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, after England handed the Chelsea duo international call-ups.
According to Amao, Nigeria should focus on the likes of Victor Osimhen and Dennis Bonaventure instead of crying over Abraham and Tomori.
DAILY POST reports that England manager, Gareth Southgate, has called up Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, for their Euro 2020 qualifying games against Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
Abraham and Tomori, who are also eligible to play for Nigeria, have been in impressive form for the Blues this season.
If they accept the invitation and eventually feature in any of the matches, they will not be able to represent the Super Eagles again.
“I think we have turned a normal situation to an emergency. We are now putting the cart before the horse and that is why we are always looking for players born abroad with Nigerian root. We put ourselves into this situation because I believe we have qualities that are better than Abraham and Fikayo in the country,” Amao was quoted by The Nation as saying.
He added: “Seeing how Osimhen and Dennis are playing in the UEFA Champions League has shown that Nigeria is blessed with talents and they have not seen anything yet from Osimhen and Dennis.
“So we should not lose sleep over the decision of Abraham and Fikayo to play for England. We all know those that made this kind of decision in the past and they were latter dump by England. So, Nigeria should forget about them and focus on the players we have. No need forcing anyone to play for Nigeria.”
