Former militant leaders under the aegis of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, LPCDI, yesterday expressed their readiness to identify persons responsible for recent acts of bombing of oil and gas facilities, sea piracy, kidnapping and other violent crimes along the creeks and waterways of the region.
The repentant creek warriors drawn from the nine states of the Niger Delta region said the decision to work with security agencies was taken due to the rising carnage, assuring that they would collaborate with security agents to check increasing cases of violent crimes and fight criminal elements.
‘‘We have vowed to fight against all enemies of the Niger Delta in order to achieve meaningful development in the region before the termination of the Presidential Amnesty Programme,” said the group led by the national coordinator, Pastor Reuben Wilson, alias General Reuben.
Wilson pointed out that those involved in the various criminal acts such as kidnapping, sea piracy, pipeline vandalism and snatching of speedboats are enemies of the region who tend to destroy the peace and development of the Niger Delta.
He stated that the amnesty programme was still on and that they do not expect anybody to parade himself as a militant as the programme is aimed at ensuring total peace and development of the region.
“Those who are still involved in the act of bombing and causing trouble in the region are enemies of progress and the Niger Delta and all the leaders of the LPCDI will join hands to fight such criminals,” the group said.
