Ex-governor, Olafemi reveals those responsible for kidnappings, killings in Kogi

A former Governor of Kogi State, Chief Clarence Olafemi, has blamed politicians for cases of kidnappings and killings in the State.

He said the proliferation of firearms that were deployed for the 2019 general elections were responsible for the recent security situation in the State.

Olafemi noted that cases of kidnapping and armed robbery increased immediately after the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

The politician stated this while speaking with newsmen on Monday on the security situation in Kogi State.

Olafemi said it was unfortunate that after the election, the youths had taken to kidnapping and armed robbery to make ends meet because of lack of work to do.

“Armed robbery and kidnapping have been on the increase on daily basis. The guns given to the youths by the politicians are now being used to commit crime.

“Election in a democratic setting must be free, fair and credible. Victory in an election is no longer based on votes, politicians have bastardized the process.

“Intimidating the voters in an election with the use of arms is very disastrous to our democratic growth,” he said.

The former governor called on security agents in the state to wade in and make sure that those in possession of illegal arms in the state are arrested.
