A former Minister of state for the FCT, Senator John Akpan Udoedehe has pointed out that restructuring would make Nigeria stronger and better in all ramifications, adding that those who are against the ideology were just afraid of secession.
He made this known over the weekend while addressing correspondents in Uyo on his governorship aspiration.
According to him, ”I support restructuring; those who are against it are thinking that the country would secede, but I don’t think so, I think that rather than to secede, Nigeria will be stronger and better in certain ways. Take for instance, the reforms in the police.
”If they reform the police like people are calling for the creation of state police, it would bring about more employment of young people who presently do not have jobs. The duties of the federal and the state police would be clearly spelt out, just like you have in Europe and America, where the Federal police exists alongside the state police.”
He expressed regret that successive administrations in Akwa Ibom State wasted the resources of the state even as indigenes and residents have little to show for the abundant resources of the area.
He decried the absence of basic infrastructures in the state especially in Uyo, and expressed disappointment that successive administrations have not reviewed and expanded the master-plan for the state capital
“For instance, no government has done anything about water even in the state capital and the result has been sinking of boreholes everywhere with life expectancy low because of unsafe drinking water that dot the entire capital.
” There is no sustainable housing scheme for this state too while politicians have continued to make political promise to look like luxury for the people when it is supposed to be what the people deserve,” he said.
Udoedeghe declared that he has forgiven his political enemy, Senator Godswill Akpabio because he “does not want to go to hell”
“Anybody who is angry that I forgave Akpabio does not want me to go to heaven. I am a born again Christian and it is wrong for one to keep hating his neighbour.
”I have forgiven Akpabio, I am carrying a burden of over 250,000 people that have suffered in the cause of my struggle to become the governor of this state,” he said.
