Former Special Adviser in Ikole Local Government of Ekiti State, Pastor Kolawole Shittu, has petitioned the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, over the mismanagement of the state’s share of N8.8 billion Paris Club refunds.
In a petition dated February 8 which was made available to the Nation on Thursday, Shittu accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of failing to fully utilize the refund to offset the outstanding arrears of salaries of ex-council political office holders who served between 1999 and 2002.
Shittu in the petition copied to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) said he was owed N906, 092. 07 out of which he was paid N50,000.
The former council official urged the minister and the anti-graft agencies to launch investigation into how Fayose spent the Paris Club refund given to Ekiti State to ensure probity, accountability and transparency.
The petition reads in part: “Enclosed alongside this petition is the full list of all political office holders in Ikole Local Government between 1999 and 2002 for your perusal. I am Number 22 on the list and it is very surprising that despite the outstanding N906,092, the governor gave me a paltry N50,000 from the Paris Club money that came to Ekiti State.
“I later understood that the governor shared N4 billion between Ekiti State workers for their salary arrears and for ex-political office holders and paid just one month out of the seven months arrears owed workers.
“Former political office holders in the state shared N70 million out of which just N50,000 got to me. At least five of the ex-political office holders in Ikole Local Government have died because of lack of mine to get good medical care for themselves.
“It is God’s grace and mercy that is keeping me; I underwent a prostrate surgery at Federal Medical Centre in Ido Ekiti. I have not been able to go there for further medical check-up because of lack of finance.
“Please, Honourable Minister, I want you to further intervene and tell Governor Fayose to go and withdraw the Paris Club money due to Ekiti State from the bank and pay us so that we can get money to feed and take good care of ourselves.”
