The immediate past Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, on Thursday described the Senate’s order for his arrest as illegal.

Larmode who made the assertion in a statement through his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, also urged ‎the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to disregard the Senate order.

The statement said, “We most respectfully urge the Nigeria Police Force to await the outcome of the matter pending in court before deciding one way or the other about the enforcement of the said Warrant of Arrest, if eventually issued.

“If the court decides otherwise against our position, our client is prepared to appear before the Senate or any of its Committees.”

It would be recalled that the Senate Committee chaired by Sen Samuel Anyanwu had yesterday issued a warrant for Lamorde’s arrest over his refusal to appear before its committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

The Senate is investigating the former EFCC boss for alleged corrupt practices while in office.
