Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Timi Frank, has described as shameful, the re-arrest of a popular human rights activist, Prince Deji Adeyanju, on the purported order of the presidency.
Frank fingered the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and the the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, as major actors on whose orders the police are allegedly plotting to silence Adeyanju for his involvement in Shi’a protest.
Disclosing this in a statement on issued to DAILY POST on Tuesday, Frank condemned what he described as victimisation of the rights crusader, even as he called on Nigerians, civil society organisations and other human rights crusaders to speak up against the tyrannical act of the current administration.
According to Frank, the Vice President was not comfortable with Adeyanju’s criticism, hence the plan to silence him.
“We have gathered reliably how the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo ordered the re-arrest of Adeyanju for criticising him on Facebook. The VP should know that in democracy criticism is allowed, that goes to say that if you are not ready for the heat get out of kitchen.
“Someone should remind the Buhari administration that this is not military regime. We are now in democracy thus protest, criticism of government officials and policies, freedom of speech are ingredients of democracy.
“These tyrannical actions will soon end. Nigerians will soon enjoy their total freedom under a government that understands democracy because freedom is an irrepressible spirit that cannot be crushed by the ruthless dictator. Where’s Adolf Hitler today? What of Gaddafi of Libya? Posterity is the best judge.
“Are we going to be cowed into keeping quiet when things go wrong? Just like good health and life is important, so is freedom. We need to be free in our country, I say no to this intimidation. 2019 should put a stop to this flagrant disobedience to the rule of law,” the statement read in part.
Frank called on Nigerians not to tolerate the APC government beyond 2019, adding that “the current events in the country has clearly shown that this government is anti-citizens”.
