The leaders of Phase II of the Presidential Amnesty Program seem to be at war with the Special Adviser to the President on Amnesty, Professor Charles Dokubo over what the group described as the “insensitivity of the Amnesty boss of our plight and the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
The group under the aegis of Coalition of Niger Delta ex-agitators, Phase II said that the conduct of Prof Dokubo was jeopardizing the program and the peace in the region.
In a statement the group issued in Abuja and made available to DAILY POST, after its meeting, and signed by Thomas Ibori, Secretary and Aniekan Victor, PRO, the group accused the Amnesty boss of sidelining the real leaders of Amnesty Phase II in preference to those they describe as cronies of the Professor, especially in the award of contracts for the training and empowerment of ex-agitators.
According to the statement, “We want to put it on record that since coming on as the head of Amnesty Office, Prof Dokubo has sidelined the genuine leaders of Amnesty Phase II, rather he is dealing with his cronies who are not amnesty beneficiaries.
“Once again, like the statement we released last week, we challenge Prof Dokubo to make public the identities of those he has been dishing out training and empowerment contracts to. He should tell the whole world the names of the leaders of Phase II Amnesty he claims to be dealing with.
“In this era in our national life when President Muhammadu Buhari is trying his level best to instil discipline and probity in our ways of conducting government business, we are at a loss why those who are working directly under the president would be sabotaging his efforts.
“We are raising this alarm early enough to call the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari that Prof Dokubo, his Special Adviser is deviating from the focus of the program and this is not in the interest of anybody. And this is also putting the president in bad light in the estimation of the good people of the region especially with the President’s reelection at stake.
“His actions and unwholesome activities are derailing the program. He has surrounded his office with cronies and family members who are swimming in the largesse meant for the good of the youths of Niger Delta.”
The group threatened to expose all the underhand deals of the Amnesty boss without batting an eyelid if he continues in what they call, “his perfidious ways.”
