Theodore Orji, the immediate past governor of Abia state and the current senator representing Abia central zone in the National Assembly, has revealed when he will quit active politics.
He disclosed that he would retire from politics in 2023.
Orji, who spoke in a live radio interactive programme and monitored by DAILY POST on Thursday, explained that his decision to quit politics in 2023 was borne out of the desire to give leadership opportunity to the younger generation.
“I want to confirm it vehemently that 2023, I will quit from active politics. I don’t know whether if you have seen politicians from Abia who have done that.
“Politicians hardly retire from politics. They don’t. Well, 2019 election is going to be the last election I will participate as an elective person.”
The former governor expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious in the forthcoming 2019 senatorial election in Abia state, despite the evil machinations of the opposition.
“I’m sure and very confident that I’m going to win, not minding the antics of my opponents”.
On the forthcoming 2019 governorship election in Abia state, Orji said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has performed well since assumption of office, boasting that the Governor will be re-elected by the people of the state come 2019 to enable him (Ikpeazu) consolidate on the gains so far made by his administration.
“The governor has done marvellously well since he came into office. I can tell you that his second term is assured. He will win come 2019.”
