Everton reject £28m joint bid from United for Fellaini and Baines


Incoming reports have it that Everton have turned down a joint 28m bid from Manchester United for defender Leighton Baines and midfield powerhouse, Marouane Fellaini.

According to the Liverpool Echo, United offered £16m for the towering Belgian and also tried to include Baines in the package for £12m.

The newspaper reports that the offer for the Belguim international midfielder was ‘swiftly and angrily’ rejected.

“Everton can confirm that it has received bids from Manchester United for two players. Those bids were immediately rejected out of hand as derisory and insulting,” a statement from Everton director of communications Alan Myers, published on the club’s official website later on Monday, read.

“The club did not make public these details as it was vital Roberto Martinez’s preparations for the opening game of the Premier League season were not disrupted in anyway.”
