Everton have confirmed former Wigan Athletic boss, Roberto Martinez, as their new manager, at a press conference this evening, after they paid the Latics a compensation fee around £1.5million.
The Spaniard, who has signed a four-year deal at Goodison Park, expressed his delight at replacing Manchester United-bound David Moyes.
“It is a real, real special day to come in here,” he said. “This is a phenomenal and passionate football club. I can’t wait to get soaked in everything Everton. I can’t wait to get going.
“It has been a natural transition and the right time to be invovled in such an exciting challenge.
“It is huge pressure [replacing Moyes] but i am extremely proud of the pressure. He has given a incredible platform, given Everton’s incredible standards and I want to be humble enough to take that magnificent job to the next level.
“It is always difficult. I believe in human relationships and you create that and it is never easy to break them. i hope I can build them at Everton and we can be a strong unit, with everyone. I am excited and looking forward.”
