Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri has explained why he did not speak with his player at extra time before the penalty shootout during their Europa League semi final clash on Thursday.

Sarri was unusually absent at such an important moment when coaches encourage their players going into the penalty shootout.

However, Sarri said he was superstitious and did not wish to walk onto the pitch.

Asked about his absence in the huddle, Sarri told press conference, “Because I don’t want to enter on the pitch.

“A superstition. [Laughs] I don’t need to talk to them. I spoke with Zola so they knew very well what to say.”
