Sporting Lisbon captain, Nani, has wished Arsenal striker, Danny Welbeck a speedy recovery after the England international broke his ankle during both sides’ 0-0 draw in the Europa League encounter played on Thursday night.
Welbeck landed awkwardly after leaping in the air to meet a cross just after the half hour mark against Sporting, and needed oxygen before being stretchered off the pitch.
Nani, a former team-mate of Welbeck at Manchester United, described Welbeck as a great player and wished him a fast recovery.
“It was a very sad moment,” ITV News quoted Nani as saying at post-match.
“I feel very sorry for Welbeck, he is a great person. A good lad and a good friend. When that kind of moment happens in the game you feel very sad.
“I don’t know what to say, I just want him to recover well and I hope it is nothing serious but you can see something happened there so I wish him all the best and a very fast recovery.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss, Unai Emery had provided update on Welbeck’s injury.
