Manchester United were on course for a 1-0 win over Anderlecht, in their Europa League quarter-final first leg game, before conceding a late goal as they were held to a disappointing draw in Belgium.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened scoring for Jose Mourinho’s men, finishing from a tight angle after Jesse Lingard’s effort was parried.
Despite starting the second half on the back foot, United almost doubled their lead in the 55th minute through Mkhitaryan. But it was the hosts that scored the next goal.
Leander Dendoncker headed past Sergio Romero with only four minutes left, to give Anderlecht some hope heading into the second leg at Old Trafford next week.
Mourinho’s men will now return to prepare for this Sunday’s crucial clash against Premier League leaders, Chelsea.
