Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey scored for Arsenal, as they outclassed AC Milan 2-0 in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash on Thursday night.
The Gunners came into the clash, on the back of four successive defeats and their hopes of finishing top four all but gone.
With the competition representing their best route back to the Champions League, Arsene Wenger named a very strong side to face the Serie A side.
Mkhitaryan opened scoring for the Gunners, after his shot was deflected past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Mesut Ozil again provided the assist for Ramsey to round the keeper and double their advantage before the break.
In the other early kick-offs, Salzburg beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in Germany, Lyon claimed a 1-0 win at CSKA Moscow and Atletico Madrid hammered Lokomotiv Moscow 3-0.
