ESER West Africa Ltd is set to hand-over the Port Harcourt – Enugu Railway to Nigerian Railways Corporation (NRC) with a big ceremony to be organized in Port Harcourt.
Among the contractors appointment by NRC to rehabilitate the Eastern Rail lines, the Turkish Company ESER is the first contractor to complete and hand over a railway.
Mr. Ilhan Adiloglu, President of ESER Holdings, explained that the rehabilitation works had been performed under very challenging conditions.
According to him, at the beginning of the contract, just after high technology equipment is mobilized by ESER to NRC owned quarry, another company claimed rights over the quarry license, and blocked access to site.
He said ESER had not stopped work but continued operating by purchasing stones externally on very high costs, in order not to delay the contract.
He explained that passing through the Niger Delta Region, the railway construction has passed different interphases with the local communities.
He said with a successful community communications strategy, ESER had shortly convinced all the opposing groups about the importance of the project for the local societies and received their supports.
Eventually, with hard efforts of ESER Team, the rail line is completed under quite difficult conditions and earlier than other contractors working out of the Delta Region, he further stated.
Adiloglu stated that “ESER is very happy to be the first of the contractors of NRC, handing over the rail line. ESER will continue putting efforts for the realization of the most important projects of Nigeria”.
ESER is also rehabilitating the Enugu – Makurdi section of the railway line, which will be ready for handing over by early 2015.
