Equatorial Guinea have been fined US$100,000 (£65,000) for the crowd trouble during their Africa Cup of Nations semi-final defeat to Ghana.
Although their fans will be allowed to watch their third-place match with DR Congo on Saturday, they have been warned that a repeat of similar events at Malabo Stadium, will attract a ban and games will be played behind closed doors.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), on Friday said in a statement, that 14 fans had been “transferred to hospital units for further investigations”, adding that “one case requires close monitoring”.
Police had to use batons and tear gas, to chase out the home supporters, after Ghana went three goals up in the second half. The game was delayed for 30 minutes, before it eventually resumed for three more minutes.
CAF said it had imposed the punishment on Equatorial Guinea for “the aggressive and recidivist behaviour of its supporters”.
The football federation added: “To promote the spirit of fair play and friendship during the 2015 African Nations Cup, the committee has decided to suspend the closed doors match on the condition that supporters are not guilty of such an infraction in the third-place match.”
