Jose Mourinho fears he might be sacked as Manchester United manager, after being contacted by Zinedine Zidane.
United’s miserable start to the new season continued on Saturday, after they were beaten 3-1 by West Ham in the Premier League.
It means the Red Devils have not won their last three domestic fixtures and pressure continues to mount on Mourinho.
Zidane has emerged as the overwhelming favourite to succeed him, having vacated his position as Real Madrid manager at the end of last season, after steering the Spanish giants to a third straight Champions League crown.
The 46-year-old was last week reported to have started taking English lessons and the The UK Sun now claims Zidane has been in touch with Mourinho, in an attempt to allay some of his fears.
Zidane, concerned Mourinho thought he could be plotting to take his job, confirmed he has been sounded out by his own representatives but is yet to be contacted by United chiefs.
United host Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, looking to end their winless run.
