Manchester United executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, has privately admitted he made an error by signing Alexis Sanchez, according to the UK Metro.
Sanchez was expected to join Manchester City in the summer of 2017, but ended up making the surprise move to Old Trafford in January 2018.
Since making the switch, the Chilean attacker has netted just five goals in 42 appearances.
And now United are open to allowing Sanchez to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, although they face a difficult task of offloading the 30-year-old as clubs are not prepared to match his high salary.
Sanchez currently earns basic wage of close to £400,000 a week, which is topped up by lucrative bonuses including a £75,000 appearance fee every time he features for the club.
