Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, spoke with midfielder Juan Mata in his office, following a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City on the final day of the Premier League season.
According to United We Stand founder, Andy Mitten, Mata was invited to talk with Woodward in his office and the pair would have likely addressed the topic of Mata’s future.
Mata is out of contract at Old Trafford in July and is yet to agree terms on a new deal.
The Spaniard is keen on remaining at United but is demanding assurances over his future ahead of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s summer cull.
The club wants to retain Mata’s services but the player could go the same way as Ander Herrera and leave the club on a free.
