EPL: Why Neymar can’t make Liverpool’s XI – Alan Shearer

Newcastle and England legend, Alan Shearer, has said that Brazilian star, Neymar, would not get into Liverpool’s team.

This, according to him, was because the Paris Saint Germain star does not work hard enough.

The PSG forward failed to impress on his visit to Anfield this week.

Liverpool beat the French giants 3-2 on Merseyside in their Champions League encounter.

It gave the Reds the ideal start in Group C as the likes of workhorses: James Milner and Jordan Henderson, led the hosts’ charge.

Neymar was criticised for not helping out enough defensively on Tuesday night when PSG were clearly under pressure at times.

Meanwhile at Liverpool, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are often seen tracking back and doing the hard work too, leading to much of the team’s success.

Firmino, in particular, despite being Liverpool’s No.9, is often hailed for his influence in winning the ball back.

Shearer was impressed with what he saw from Liverpool’s attack during the Champions League game.

“The team that have really impressed me is Liverpool, they do look the real deal,” Shearer wrote in his column for Coral.

“They have had two tough tests recently, Tottenham away and PSG at home and they have come through with wins in both games.

“Klopp demands that every player works hard in the team, and when you look at someone like Neymar who undoubtedly has talent, he would not fit into the Liverpool team as he does not work hard enough

“I was looking forward to watching Liverpool’s game against PSG on Tuesday night, and it didn’t disappoint.

“Liverpool went about it in their usual way, there was some brilliant attacking football on display, and they got off to a great start in the competition.

“The game also highlighted the strength in depth this Liverpool squad has, with Firmino coming off the bench to score a terrific winner.

“It was great to see Daniel Sturridge back and playing well. Nobody has ever doubted his ability, his problem has been staying fit and injury-free for long enough.”
