EPL: Why I’m grateful to Leicester fans despite Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat – Wenger

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has stated the reasons he is grateful to Leicester City fans after his team were defeated 3-1 by Claude Puel’s men at the King Power stadium in Wednesday’s Premier League fixture.

Kelechi Iheanacho opened the scoring for the home side in the 14th minute before Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leveled the score line for the visitors in the 53rd minute.

Jamie Vardy scored a penalty in the 76th minute and winger, Riyad Mahrez also scored a late goal in the 90th minute to give his side the deserved three points.

However, Leicester fans gave Wenger, who will be leaving the Emirate club at the end of the season a farewell song as they were chanting, “One Arsene Wenger, there’s only one Arsene Wenger”.

Wenger, who is used to hearing that from Arsenal fans, was treated to a rendition of the song by Leicester fans on Wednesday night.

The home supporters rose to acclaim the 68-year-old and he acknowledged them with a wave as the away fans joined in.

Speaking after the match, Wenger told Arsenal official website, “I am upset with myself that I cannot really enjoy it [Song from Leicester fans] because I want so much to win always that I cannot even enjoy that in the right way!

“But I am grateful and would like to thank them very much.

“I will miss the special atmosphere at English grounds, I will miss less some of the decisions during the games, but the atmosphere and the quality of English football is absolutely something I will miss forever.”

Arsenal will now play their final EPL match against Huddersfield Town this weekend.
